The Recording Academy has officially announced the nominees for the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards, which will take place at Crypto.com Arena Feb. 2 in Los Angeles. This year, though, rap is certainly more correctly represented as opposed to recent years.
We all knew that this would be Kendrick Lamar’s year to clean house during award season. “Not Like Us” was undeniably the song of the summer and became an iconic Los Angeles anthem in the “elimination” of Drake. Lamar is the most-recognized rapper this year, touting seven total nominations which includes Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year for “Not Like Us.”
Lamar’s verse on “Like That” paved the way for Metro Boomin and Future’s We Don’t Trust You to earn nods for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. However, Future and Metro dominated 2024 on their own merits with ease, dropping three total albums collectively over the course of the year. Future and Metro collect four total nominations across the rap categories. Of the most eye-catching honors, J. Cole’s Might Delete Later and Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal earned Best Rap Album looks despite their official releases as mixtapes.
Among those snubbed, ScHoolBoy Q’s BLUE LIPS and Vince Staples’ Dark Times were among the few albums called out by the hip-hop community. Regardless, the Academy has done a better job (this year at least) at spotting the records that truly made a splash in 2024.
