Certified Trapper Interview: Milwaukee rapper puts his city on the map

Although Certified Trapper spent a year behind bars, he spent it wisely. “Planning and strategizing” his career, the budding Milwaukee trap-rap icon embodies the diligent yet simplistic nature his sounds fully represents.

Self-producing all of his beats from stock sounds in Logic Pro X, it’s no question how Trapper’s metronome clap-style caught the ear of fellow Midwest emcee BabyTron — taking Trapper on tour for his latest record Bin Reaper 3 this year.

Popping out during Tron’s set at Rolling Loud California (March 3-5), it’s apparent no rapper has been — or will be — like Certified Trapper. With a unique ear for production — littered with synth basses, bells and ceaseless club claps — he’s earned flowers from a few of hip-hop’s most experimental ears in recent memory such as Zelooperz, Danny Brown and of course BabyTron.

Striving to take his sound to an entirely new level in 2023 off the back of his latest single “Blick Me Up” and December album I’m Certified, he outwardly showcases the hard work he puts into to his craft. Boasting a total of 33 mixtapes on Spotify since 2021, expect Trapper to keep pumping out certified street classics — and beyond — as his career starts to soar.

The Milwaukee mainstay chopped it up with OGM host Hakeem Rowe to speak on his relationship with BabyTron, his hometown, self-producing, his reference points, artists he wants to work with and more in our latest Our Generation Music exclusive.
