Lil88 Interview: Opium, 808 Mafia, ‘LOVE LASTS FOREVER’

Lil88 is at the forefront of Atlanta’s new generation of 808 Mafia for a reason.

The nephew of GRAMMY-nominated producer TM88 and pupil of Southside, the 24-year-old Opium producer and artist has been a part of—and has played a major role in—some of the biggest moments of the current wave. Alongside Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely, Lil88 has been in rooms and has worked with ATL legends such as Playboi Carti, Young Thug, Metro Boomin and Future to name a few.

Following his executive production of Destroy Lonely’s latest album LOVE LASTS FOREVER and placements on Ken Carson’s A GREAT CHAOS, Lil88 has big plans in store for 2025, as he looks to release his first-ever album as an artist/producer. Learning from ATL legends like Future, Metro Boomin, Southside and TM88, Lil88 is poised to become one of the most influential sound designers of this wave when it’s all said and done—constantly taking advice from his peers and always striving to do better.

Speaking on working with Playboi Carti in the studio (co-producing “BENO!” on Whole Lotta Red), OGM host Hakeem Rowe chopped it up with Lil88 about his relationships and work with Future and Metro Boomin’s double-album run last year, living with Young Thug, building the Opium sound and aesthetic with Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely and so much in this exclusive Our Generation Music interview.
