YT Interview: UK Rap, Attending Oxford, Jerk, Lancey Foux

In 2024, the UK underground arrived in the States like never before, and YT’s viral hit “Black & Tan” evidently led the charge for its motion.

The British rapper’s infectious jerk-infused bars have always been a part of his swag, initially blowing up at the start of 2023 with his track “Arc’teryx,” which is nearing almost 6 million total streams. He kept up that momentum heading into ’24, working closely with fellow UK rising star Len, Lancey Foux and Fimiguerrero (who make up their own collective CONGLOMERATE).

Interestingly, YT cites a range of influences for his sound. From NYC’s initial jerk wave (brought forth by xaviersobased) to iconic early 2000s pop hits like Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”—sampling the track on “#PURRR” off his debut tape, #STILLSWAGGIN—YT is always looking for something to grab listeners’ attention.

YT followed up his breakthrough moment on “Black & Tan” with tracks like “Prada Or Celine” and “MVP” (all featuring nostalgic music videos from LAUZZA) as well as earning a spot on our 2025 OGM Artists To Watch list this past month. Fueled by addictive beats and a flurry of hilarious memes, the Oxford graduate walked his way to the forefront of the underground in no time. Although he’s been active with a loyal cult fanbase for years, YT is looking more like an international superstar everyday.

In our latest interview, host Hakeem Rowe chops it up with YT about UK rap is evolving, relationships with Lancey Foux, Skepta, his influences, jerk rap much more in this Our Generation Music exclusive.
