Back in early July, Maryland native Cordae took to Twitter to explain to fans that he felt like he underwhelmed with his most recent studio album From A Bird’s Eye View. Vowing to “do better next time” and saying he “got sumn to prove,” it appears the 24-year-old is well on his way to accomplishing that.
On Thursday (Aug. 11), Cordae released his latest two-pack of songs consisting of “Unacceptable” and “So With That.” With a second album intended for release in 2022 on the way, it’s unclear if these tracks will land on the project. But, it is abundantly clear Cordae is hitting his stride.
“Unacceptable,” produced by trap legend ATL Jacob, consists of a smooth guitar loop and punchy drums that allow for Cordae’s harmonized bars to take center stage. The passion in his voice is evident while he croons about betrayal on the song’s hook.
Take one look at me, n***a, we gettin’ revenue
But you put money over loyalty, unacceptable
Used to have to throw hands right after school
Was born a real n***a, that’s my greatest attribute (Uh)
All the shit that we been through, act like you never knew
“Unacceptable” — Cordae
On the second cut “So With That,” which he previewed on Instagram on Wednesday (Aug. 10), Cordae continues to flex his continuously improving singing voice. Sounding as impressive and melodic as ever, Cordae rhymes about battling through the ebbs and flows of his relationship because of how much love they have for one another.
Released simultaneously with the two-pack, the “So With That” music video reflects this sentiment. As Cordae portrays a couple struggling to make it work with money problems, he shows why resilience is the best trait in a relationship.
Just a few weeks removed from a stunning YouTube exclusive single, Cordae’s upcoming untitled project should surely provide more quality content from an artist consistently adding to his bag.
