Rising drill rapper detours from usual style with help of feature on new song.
DUSTY LOCANE came out of nowhere less than a year ago when he dropped his first single to digital streaming platforms “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN FREESTYLE” in August 2020. The Brooklyn-raised artist caught the eye of hip-hop fans in the summer controlled by drill rappers like Fivio Foreign, Sheff G and the late Pop Smoke who many compared LOCANE to.
Since then, he has only released five other songs to DSPs, including sequel “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN, Pt.2 (PICTURE ME)” in mid-May. He intended to release his debut album Life of a 5 on June 11, but delayed it the week of. Then, on June 21, he took to Instagram Live to announce the album would no longer be coming, and he would instead drop a 5-6 song EP in the near future.
In the meantime, DUSTY LOCANE dropped new single “BEST FRIEND” with relatively unknown, fellow New Yorker 8ANDITT on Friday, July 2. “Best Friend” is the only song on 8ANDITT’s DSP profile’s, but he offers a compelling, melodic hook for the track that deviates from LOCANE’s hostile atmosphere on most of his previous songs.
It’s different
Keep it on me, just know that that Glocky my best (Best friend, best friend)
“BEST FRIEND” — DUSTY LOCANE & 8ANDITT
LOCANE still brings the attitude on his verse alluding to his gun being his “best friend” and how he can always be seen with it. The intimidating bars separated by a catchy chorus makes this one of DUSTY’s most impressive tracks to date.
He continues to stay on this momentous single run, which should excite drill fans for his upcoming EP.
