Elton John, who has been a legendary name in music since the 70’s, has recently made a name for himself in the hip-hop genre. His recent compilation, The Lockdown Sessions, exemplifies his reach in the industry, recruiting Young Thug and Nicki Minaj on “Alway Love You.”
Although the album is mostly made up of previously released tracks, such as “One of Me” with Lil Nas X and the Miley Cyrus remix of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” listeners were blessed with a couple of unheard tracks.
Most notably to rap fans, “Alway Love You” added a uniquely hip-hop feel to the album. Thug’s recent affinity with singing is showcased over the track’s smooth piano beat, while Nicki uses her classic fast-paced rap-singing combination for the second verse.
In an interview with Billboard, Elton recently cited Young Thug as one of his favorite rappers, comparing his ability to freestyle to former collaborator Eminem.
Not long ago, Elton was falsely believed to be on Punk, Thugger’s latest full-length project. It was mentioned, however, that he played a large role in the Atlanta rapper’s recent confidence with melodies in his music.
With appearances from the Gorillaz, 6LACK, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks and more, The Lockdown Sessions make for a beautifully diverse album.
