After previewing a new track at Made In America Festival last weekend, Fivio Foreign wasted no time in capitalizing off its hype.
Off the back of his stellar appearance on Kanye West’s DONDA, Fivio is well on his way to becoming a household name in hip-hop. His relentless verse on “Off The Grid” garnered plenty of attention and he’s certainly taking advantage of it, dropping his introspective new single “Story Time.”
The track features Fivio dropping menacing yet thoughtful bars over a dark choir melody. His lyricism is on a new level — painting a vivid potrait of the defects of the American prison system and the surrounding toll it takes on those consumed by it. The track’s accompanying music video depicts the story he tells in impressive detail.
Let me tell a little sad story about this young boy, grew up, no pops in the crib
That nigga momma workin’ so she couldn’t really show him no love when he was a kid (AyoAA)
He didn’t even mean to do that incident
He was only eighteen when he got caught that bid
He in and out of jail, he ain’t know how to move
He ain’t know how to fight, he ain’t know how to lose
He walked in the spot (Spot)
They told him, “Strip, cough, squat” (Uh)
Fivio Foreign — Story Time
Fivio’s 2021 has also been nothing short of impressive. On top of working with Ye on DONDA, his guest spots on “Headshots” (with Lil Tjay and Polo G) and “Spin Music” (with Toosii) give the New York rapper another layer to his drill-centric sound.
As the genre continues to see a huge resurgence in the mainstream, Fivio is more than ready to claim his place at the top. Look forward to more releases from him in the near future.
