Highway visits ‘Sin City’ with Jetsonmade ahead of upcoming ‘Monochrome’ tape

Highway is setting the stage for his upcoming project with a new Jetsonmade-produced single “Sin City.”

Over the last year, Highway’s uniquely captivating melodic style has been one of the hottest topics in the underground, piquing the interest of the mainstream and landing the mysterious Seattle native squarely in your-favorite-artists’-favorite-artist territory. This month, he’s gearing up to follow his self-titled debut with Monochrome, his latest offering currently set to release in March.

For those that may just be tapping in with the underground’s best-kept secret, “Sin City” is the perfect introduction to the dark melodies and distinct tone of Highway, whose vibey flows blend the lines between trap, R&B and the new wave in a fresh and hugely compelling way (that Spotify seems to have labeled “Vapor Trap”).

The unique arrangement on his latest single was produced by the young super-producer Jetsonmade (co-prod. 1st Class & Sanee) a close collaborator of Highway’s since they first connected for “Another Plane” in 2021. The intense array of synths on “Sin City” mimics a soft symphony of horns and is punctuated by trappy 808s that leave plenty of space for Highway’s winding flows and irregularly spaced bars.

To match the project’s monochrome theme and the song’s dark and ethereal vibe, the “Sin City” visual (directed by Franklinspov) is shot in Highway’s standard black-and-white color scheme and alternates between crisp HD and grainy VHS footage – transitioning between artsy shots of the enigmatic rising star as he sets the tone for his best body of work yet.

Much like his fashion, Highway is truly a one-of-one. With “Sin City” and the impending release of Monochrome, the elusive Seattle native continues to develop his compelling signature style and inch ever closer to the mainstream.
