Brent Faiyaz & Drake — “Wasting Time”
Brent Faiyaz’s rise as one of R&B’s most talented artists has been a long time coming. Since the release of his debut album Sonder, it was evident Faiyaz was destined for stardom — now finding himself collaborating with the assist-king Drake on “Wasting Time.” Over production from The Neptunes, Drake and Faiyaz are in their element with this lo-fi, hip-hop cut. As he continues to finish his upcoming album, a Drake feature is just the beginning for what’s to come from Faiyaz.
dvsn & Ty Dolla $ign (feat. Mac Miller) — “I Believed It”
Anytime a posthumous verse from a late-artist appears, anticipation instantly swarms timelines and social feeds. However, this doesn’t feel like the ordinary posthumous feature fans have gotten used to, as R&B duo dvsn, Ty Dolla $ign and Mac Miller dropped their single “I Believed It.” Miller’s verse felt familiar yet otherwordly, as dvsn, Ty and Mac release a chemistry-filled cut packed with vibrant voices and incredible production throughout.
$NOT — “Red“
New music Friday Lyrical Lemonade veteran $NOT continues to assert himself as a franchise face in hip-hop’s current wave. Fresh off collaborations with Cochise, ssgkobe and Dro Kenji, $NOT’s latest offering “Red” is a switch-up from his usual brash and dark production — taking his signature sound to new heights. He explained “Red” via Instagram Live: “It’s a song to vibe to. It’s a very unorthodox, eccentric $NOT song. Don’t worry about the lyrics cause there ain’t nothing to them. It’s like drinking a McDonald’s sprite with all red starbursts.”
midwxst — “Ruthless”
Indiana rapper midwxst has been turning heads at just 16. On the back of his latest album SUMMER03, his tasteful mix of emo-rap and hyperpop captivates listeners across the entire record. On his new track “Ruthless,” he continues to grow the sound that makes him special — dipping into his rap ability more than ever before.
Lil Yachty — “Love Music”
Lil Yachty’s ascension as Quality Control’s golden boy has enabled him to rap alongside some the industry’s best. However, it’s Yachty’s infamous auto-tuned crooning that initially earned him his flowers — and on his new single “Love Music” — melodic Boat gets back into his singing bag.
YNW Melly and Queen Naija link up for their single “Pieces.” Melly has been much more active as of late — dropping other 2021 singles in “Thugged Out,” “Na Na Na Boo Boo,” and “No Love.” Amid his incarceration for first-degree murder, Melly continues his steady flow of music by picking up the “pieces.”
Logic — “Vaccine”
After dropping off his collection of mixtape bangers freshly cleared for streaming services last week, Logic’s third consecutive release post-retirement comes in the form of “Vaccine.” Logic quick-wittingly spits over a self-produced beat, releasing “Vaccine” In celebration of the five-year anniversary of his Bobby Tarantino mixtape.
New music Friday IDK’s third single off his upcoming album USEE4YOURSELF bears a feature from YSL trap legend Young Thug. The two trade bars over a rambunctious trap beat, making this another chemistry-filled cut in IDK’s arsenal.
G Herbo — “25”
Featuring the likes of Polo G, 21 Savage, Lil Tjay, Gunna, The Kid LAROI and Rowdy Rebel, G Herbo returns with his tenth studio album, 25. Herbo is heartless throughout, spitting bars about his current plights with life, love, loyalty, turning 25 and demanding more respect on his name.
Connecting with hitmaker Hit-Boy once more, Nas has been on a tear stemming from his winning his first Grammy for his critically acclaimed album King’s Disease. Now, recruiting the likes of young superstar Cordae and Grammy-award nominee Freddie Gibbs, the trio offers a story-driven cut over a head-bobbing instrumental. In other words, expect this song to get stuck in your head this weekend and beyond.
