Polarizing rapper kicks off Lil Nas X season with hard-hitting single.
Lil Nas X released “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow today (July 23). The four-minute track features production from Nas X’s frequent collaborator Take A Daytrip, as well as the show-stopping Kanye West.
The buildup to “Industry Baby” was extravagant. In October 2020, Lil Nas X first teased the song in a video of him and the two members of Take A Daytrip dancing to it. The song did not have a title or release date at the time.

The end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired teaser featured another snippet of “Industry Baby.” Lil Nas X would then confirm the song July 19, when he tweeted a skit to promote the song, showing him on trial for his controversial unauthorized sale of Nike sneakers with human blood in them. The end of the skit confirmed “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow featuring and Take A Daytrip and Kanye West on production.

“Industry Baby” is here now, seeing Lil Nas X as spiteful and motivated as ever. Over the triumphant, brass instrument-infused production with booming bass, Nas X flexes with bars in the opening like “Baby back, ayy, couple racks, ayy / Couple Grammys on him, couple plaques, ayy.”
All over the track, Lil Nas X alludes to his upcoming album such as his starting his first verse with, “Need to get this album done / Need a couple numbеr ones / Need a plaque on evеry song,” as well as ending his hook with:
You was never really rooting for me anyway (Ooh, ooh)
When I’m back up at the top, I wanna hear you say (Ooh, ooh)
He don’t run from nothin’, dog
Get your soldiers, tell ’em that the break is over (Yeah)

Jack Harlow slides in on the second verse with his signature laid-back flair spitting confident, self-assure bars like:
My track record so clean, they couldn’t wait to just bash me
I must be gettin’ too flashy, y’all shouldn’t have let the world gas me (Woo)
It’s too late ’cause I’m here to stay and these girls know that I’m nasty (Mmm)

“Industry Baby” sees Nas X kick the door down to announce his return to the game. He has not dropped a project since his summer 2019 EP 7. But, he has finally returned and looks to continue topping charts and dissing his haters along the way.
