Lil Uzi Vert drops emo-inspired single, visual ‘Demon High’

Fans of Lil Uzi Vert have been clamoring for his Pink Tape era, his upcoming studio album, for over a year now. After not releasing any official solo music in 2021, he decided to end the drought on Oct. 29, dropping his devilish new single “Demon High.”

The song lasts over three minutes, and introduces a playful, pop-rock side of Lil Uzi Vert. “Demon High” opens with a school bell and Uzi ushering the listener into an upside-down, devious school of heartbreak and evil spirits.

With an infectious, melodic hook and rhythmic claps on the first half of the instrumental, Uzi creates an atmosphere of a teen band in a Disney show performing at a battle of the bands. While the track may seem gleeful and fun sonically, the lyrics see Uzi emulate an anguished state of mind as he would do anything for his love interest.

I feel the demons comin’ out of me (Shh)

I won’t ignite the flame

I just don’t feel the same

Guess I’m the one to blame (Yeah)

And I sacrifice my own love just to feel your touch (Touch)

And I cancel my whole wide world just to gain your trust (Trust)

Uzi dropped an accompanying music video for the song midday on Oct. 29, which is a fitting depiction of the song’s diabolically academic vibe, as Uzi goes through a day at emo, haunted high school with classmates in spooky costumes.

Earlier this week, a video surfaced of Uzi telling a fan he would delay The Pink Tape for the foreseeable future, as he wants to perfect the project and assure of its quality. He performed a few songs off this upcoming record during his Rolling Loud performance in New York this weekend.
