For all of those that doubted SoFaygo, it seems that you owe him an apology.
The Cactus Jack rapper’s latest single “WHAT YOU WANT” doesn’t just brim with contagious energy and charisma, but captures a feeling similar to his undeniable breakout in late-2019.
Linking back up with y2tnb, bryceunknwn and its2ezzy, the familiar producer tags on “WHAT YOU WANT” prove to be a battle cry for the sonic war SoFaygo wages. His iridescent vocals ensare you through the piano-laced instrumental, skating over signature fast-paced percussion that has become consistent within Faygo’s discography. The passion, poise and personality are all present on “WHAT YOU WANT,” giving longtime fans just that — a track they’ve wanted from the jump.
This is Faygo’s first solo release since sharing his 12-track mixtape GO+ in June, which followed his formal debut album Pink Heartz in 2022. Featuring Ken Carson, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, Pharrell and others, the Apple Music Up Next cover star took his sound to the new heights on Pink Heartz — signing to Travis Scott‘s Cactus Jack just a year before its release. While GO+ acted as a return to underground form after the flood of mainstream hype (bringing on YUNG KAYO and DD Osama for the tape), he recently locked in with fellow Atlanta native Bear1boss, as well as wolfacejoeyy for the “buku” (remix).
SoFaygo’s presence as one of the frontrunners of the new wave’s core essence will never fade — whether or not fair-weather fans lose interest (or faith) in his ability to capture the culture.
