Yebba, A$AP Rocky mesh perfectly on smooth cut ‘Far Away’

Arkansas singer builds on recent momentum with new album.

The past few weeks have been exceptionally kind to the 26-year-old Arkansas native Yebba.

After appearing as a guest on Drake’s blockbuster album Certified Lover Boy with her own stunningly beautiful “Yebba’s Heartbreak” interlude, the jazz/R&B songbird released her debut studio album Dawn on Sept. 10.

Evidently, Yebba is fond of hip-hop collaborations, as her lead single for the album featured a charismatic verse from Smino on the backend of “Louis Bag.” Now, as the entire project has become available, she found another marquee rap feature in A$AP Rocky for Dawn‘s fifth song “Far Away.”

At just under three and a half minutes, “Far Away” brings an eerie, yet compelling vibe with a wonderfully melodic sung hook and first verse from Yebba including whispered vocals. The production from multi-Grammy award winner and frequent Yebba collaborator Mark Ronson becomes more upbeat with its tempo and drums at the start of A$AP Rocky’s elaborate, thrilling verse.

Yabba dabba doo, I’m with YEBBA in my coupe

With my fellas, butter-soft leathers, bumpin’ Fela Kuti

Off that gin and juice, after, after that, I left the roof

After that, we hit the after-hours spot ’til the afternoon

The song reaches its climax as Rocky’s verse leads back into Yebba’s powerful hook to cap off the performance.

Roll up all my ones, take my chances

Hit another blunt, watch the embers burn away

Pour a double cup, I’m dirty dancin’

What am I runnin’ from when I run so

Far away, away, away, away

Far away, away, away, away
