Ab-Soul thinks he can ‘Do Better’ on his new single with Zacari

After making his presence known after a not-so-brief hiatus, Top Dawg Entertainment’s philosopher Ab-Soul has been on a hot streak, dropping single after single in anticipation of his upcoming album.

Now, the cryptic artist is back with his first collaboration off the project, “Do Better” featuring TDE labelmate Zacari.

Soulo gets deep over a soulful instrumental that samples the 2017 hit “Green Twins” by Nick Hakim, spitting about achieving his potential and aiming for greater success. Zacari chimes in near the end of the track, crooning a quick, soft lullaby to close out the beautiful single.

“Said, I gotta do better, I gotta do better, I gotta

Pick up the pieces and master the puzzle upon us

Look the man in the mirror in the eye and be honest

Slow down time, get back in line with my chakras”

Ab-Soul — “Do Better”

Visuals for “Do Better” make use of a black-and-white filter to add to the seriousness of Ab-Soul’s lyrical epiphany, revealing the eyes behind the dark-tinted glasses that never seem to come off his face. His monologues before and after the track give an insight to the struggles he has faced since we last saw him, previewing some of the content we can expect on his next drop.

This marks the third single since Ab-Soul began his rollout, announcing his return with “Hollandaise.” Last month, he followed up with another solo track titled “Moonshooter,” a poetic track showcasing the power of his pen.

Ab-Soul has been working on this project for the last seven years, consistently teasing his progress until we finally got a solid update this year. Although the album was originally supposed to drop in August, there have clearly been some delays. It’s unknown at this point when it will drop, but fans are just happy to see Ab-Soul back in action after such a long break.
