Ab-Soul returns with saucy new single ‘Hollandaise’

It’s been nearly six years since Ab-Soul dropped his 2016 album, Do What Thou Wilt.

Since then, he’s been keeping a low profile, only appearing on a few select features like Russ’ “Who Wants That” and “Back At It” with Kembe X. Now, the TDE wordsmith has finally returned with his latest single “Hollandaise.”

“Hollendaise” is Ab-Soul’s first solo offering since 2020’s “Dangerookipawaa Freestyle” — and he sounds as hungry as he’s ever been. Unlike the majority of his past work, the track features a much more brighter sound, touting smooth flows and exquisite lyrics that remain as strong as ever over its thumping, light production.

His braggadocios lines about money and being the realest while he repeats on the hook “same song, new dance” feels like a breath of fresh air from someone who’s been in the game for over a decade. It shows that, just as the hook says, Soulo is still the same top-tier lyricist but is trying out new things.

Since 2019, Ab has been teasing his fifth studio album — originally planned to drop back in 2020 but never arrived due the pandemic. Now, it seems that the project is completed and Soul is searching for just one more feature to top it all off. He reached out to Ye on Twitter, hoping to achieve that last verse he needs.

As Soul readies his latest offering, he will be the fourth TDE member to have something prepped in the label’s pipeline. ScHoolboy Q just dropped his first single in years “Soccer Dad,” SZA just finished recording her album, and of course, Kendrick Lamar’s final TDE album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will arrive May 13.

With all of these expected to drop at some point in 2022, TDE is ready for another takeover.
