Ab-Soul announces new album coming next month

While TDE’s Ab-Soul broke back into the spotlight in April with his latest track “Hollandaise,” he’s been relatively quiet about his upcoming album since.

However, that all changed when he took to IG Live last weekend — dishing out a plethora of news regarding his forthcoming LP, which is set to include new visuals and a coinciding tour. As Soul was out on the beach celebrating the Fourth of July, he spent some of his time talking to fans on Instagram, keeping them updated about what he has in the works.

During the live stream, he announced that the record would be released by August. “Just wanna give y’all an update… album done,” he said as he ate and enjoyed his day. He went on to state that the album was originally scheduled to drop back in 2020, however, the pandemic deterred those plans.

“I promise y’all, I was gonna drop that m***** f***** in 2020 but you know the Covid s**t hit. I wasn’t just gonna stream some s**t”

The TDE lyricist also revealed that he had shot two visuals and ended the stream showing some excitement for a potential tour. “It’s gonna be lit,” he said before resuming his holiday festivities. Just a few weeks ago, Soul also enjoyed himself at Smokers Club festival where he ran into OGM host Hakeem Rowe.

While he’s still ironing out the final details, Soulo has been tweeting and teasing potential features for the upcoming record. He most recently tweeted about wanting to connect with Rubi Rose as well as giving Latto her flowers. Back in February, he asked Ye for a guest verse to finish out the last song on the project. It’ll be interesting to see if any one of these stars end up on the final tracklist once the album is unveiled.

Ab-Soul is coming off a long six-year break following his last full-length project Do What Thou Wilt and is preceded by the lead single “Hollandaise.” With the new album allegedly just a month away, fans won’t have to wait long to decipher some more of Soulo’s cryptic lines.

Ab-Soul returns with saucy new single ‘Hollandaise’

It’s been nearly six years since Ab-Soul dropped his 2016 album, Do What Thou Wilt.

Since then, he’s been keeping a low profile, only appearing on a few select features like Russ’ “Who Wants That” and “Back At It” with Kembe X. Now, the TDE wordsmith has finally returned with his latest single “Hollandaise.”

“Hollendaise” is Ab-Soul’s first solo offering since 2020’s “Dangerookipawaa Freestyle” — and he sounds as hungry as he’s ever been. Unlike the majority of his past work, the track features a much brighter sound, touting smooth flows and exquisite lyrics that remain as strong as ever over its thumping, light production.

His braggadocious lines about money and being the realest while he repeats “same song, new dance” on the hook feels like a breath of fresh air from someone who’s been in the game for over a decade. It shows that, just as the hook says, Soulo is still the same top-tier lyricist but is trying out new things.

Since 2019, Ab has been teasing his fifth studio album — originally planned to drop back in 2020 but never arrived due the pandemic. Now, it seems that the project is completed and Soul is searching for just one more feature to top it all off. He reached out to Ye on Twitter, hoping to achieve that last verse he needs.

As Soul readies his latest offering, he will be the fourth TDE member to have something prepped in the label’s pipeline. ScHoolboy Q just dropped his first single in years “Soccer Dad,” SZA just finished recording her album, and of course, Kendrick Lamar’s final TDE album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will arrive May 13.

With all of these expected to drop at some point in 2022, TDE is ready for another takeover.
