After a long hiatus, Ellie Goulding and Big Sean are back with a new heartbreak banger “Easy Lover.”
The new tune marks the second collaboration between the two, first linking up on Big Sean’s track “You Don’t Know.” This time around, Sean finds himself as the featured act, as “Easy Lover” will most likely end up on Goulding’s upcoming album. The collaboration was first announced on July 4, and reportedly was “a long time coming.”
“Easy Lover” brings a crazy futuristic vibe that Ellie Goulding has been long known for, dropping off a grand and catchy chorus that discusses the ups and downs of a past relationship — wholeheartedly wanting the ups in a new relationship. Sean comes through with hard bars about wanting to get back with a past lover and the struggles she brings. Mix the two together and you have one of the best dance-centric tracks of the year.

Big Sean has been relatively quiet in 2022, hopping on Queen Naija’s “Hate Our Love” back in February. Despite that, Big Sean teamed up with legendary producer Hit-Boy for one of the best EP’s of 2021: What You Expect. The project was met with critical success and featured some of the industry’s biggest stars including Lil Durk, 42 Dugg, Bryson Tiller and Babyface Ray. He also performed at Coachella 2022.
While this marks Ellie Goulding’s first collaboration with a rapper since 2019’s “Hate Me” with the late Juice WRLD, Ellie’s voice has made its way into some of the year’s biggest rap hits in the form of a sample. Her track “Don’t Say a Word” was sampled by Lil Baby for his single “In A Minute,” and her track “Lights” was sampled on Fivio Foreign’s “World Watching” featuring BLEU and Lil TJay.
