Shortly after teaming up on “In My Field” (July 29), BIG30 and Hotboii are back with their latest joint effort “Scared Of Us” (Aug. 19).
Since his breakout hit “Neighbors” in 2021 — which has gained over 50 million streams on Spotify — featuring close friend and collaborator Pooh Shiesty, the Memphis emcee has represented his city in a big way. Earning a spot on the 2022 XXL Freshman Class, 30 is rapidly climbing to street-rap prominence, and continues to do so on “Scared Of Us.”
Driven by heavy 808s and a playful vocal sample, produced by the legendary ATL Jacob, 30 details the harsh realities of street-life and what it means to “stand on business” — ripping through his verses with straight energy while Hotboii provides a melodic hook. Their chemistry is apparent all throughout the record, as the Memphis rising star ultimately speaks on the price that comes with being a “real gangsta.”
“A real gangsta specialize in bringing n-s trauma (Trauma)
Stand on that business ’til I die, I put that on my mama (On my maime)”“Scared Of Us” – BIG30
Hotboii comes through on the chorus and wastes no time stating he “hate when n**as swear they standing on business who ain’t even handling none.” The Orlando-based rapper expresses his desire to “slide” though he’s “not a regular” anymore.
“None of these lil’ f**k n**as be outside, they must be scared of us (Why you scared?)
Still be ready to slide when I feel tried like I’m still regular (When I slide)”“Scared Of Us” – Hotboii
Along with the single, BIG30 also released a video which shows him in a paintball-gun war, as the 22-year-old rapper continues to showcase why he is one of the best young talents coming out of the South. Consistently putting in the work and developing his sound, BIG30 is an artist you don’t want to miss.
