While everyone has been waiting for any sign of new music from him, Frank Ocean is looking toward the big screen for his next endeavor.
According to Discussing Film, the multi-talented singer is reportedly in talks with the acclaimed film production company A24 to direct his first feature film. Plot details and the title of the new project are scarce, though many people believe “Philly” is the working title.
Frank is no stranger to A24’s extensive catalog of films. He wrote the foreword to Barry Jenkin’s Oscar-winning film Moonlight. Jenkins was even inspired by Frank when writing the movie, tweeting in 2016 how he wrong the script while listening to a slowed and remixed version of Channel Orange.
And I don't give a damn what nobody say, that Carol/Frank Ocean tweet was 🔥Wrote the script to this 👌🏿 https://t.co/wmSIuGZQEn

Later on, the 2019 film Waves directed by Trey Shelts heavily features his music using moments from “Seigfried,” “Godspeed,” “Florida” and others from his visual album Endless. Frank himself cleared the usage of his music after being seen an early cut of the film. Endless was Frank’s first foray into directing and this new project could truly show his talents behind the camera.
Frank is allegedly working with London-based production company 2AM to get the project off the ground. 2AM is an independent company that is backed and distributed by A24.
For those still waiting for his mythic new album, there may be hope that it is just within reach. The music icon is reportedly headlining Coachella in 2023 and could release new music until that fateful day. With this new movie and his headlining spot in Coachella, 2023 is gearing up to be a major year for Frank Ocean’s return.
