Freddie Gibbs has been hyping up his latest album SSS (Soul Sold Separately) since April of last year, but it seems like its release is finally on the horizon.

On Tuesday (Feb. 22), the Grammy-nominated rapper stopped by The Bills Simmons Podcast to discuss sports and his rap career before casually mentioning that the album will come out sometime this June. Before they eventually got on the topic of his music, Simmons and Freddie discussed a multitude of topics ranging from the NBA to 2pac to his sports career in high school and more.

Gibbs mentioned how his upbringing affected his career choices and how it was one of his best friends who got him involved with rapping in the first place. As the podcast winded down, Gibbs talked about his Grammy-nominated album Alfredo and how integral sports documentaries are to his writing process. He ended the interview by briefly saying that SSS will be readily available in June but didn’t clarify a specific date just yet.

Gibbs has been dropping teasers and singles for the project all throughout 2021 and showed off an already impressive guest list. The last single he dropped “Black Illuminati” featured Jadakiss and before that, he linked up with ScHoolboy Q for “Gang Signs.” Both touting razor-sharp lyrics and ever-evolving flow, the Alfredo rapper made sure that listeners knew that he is still at the very top of his game.

Other than SSS, Gibbs has been teasing ventures into other genres and careers lately. He’s currently set to make his debut in the upcoming film, Down With The King, and according to the podcast interview, is set to star in a few more unnamed projects down the road.

Back in music, Freddie has said before that he may test out a full-on R&B project after SSS drops. This would be a return to the R&B world after shifting away from the sound early in his career to perfect his rapping ability.

With SSS expectedly set to drop in June, Gibbs new season is fast approaching and fans are eagerly awaiting his next potential classic. By the sound of it, Gibbs is as confident and ready as ever to take his career to the next level.
