The Forever Story emcee is still writing the story that’s true to him.
Visiting NPR’s Tiny Desk on Thursday (Sept. 8), JID proved to be even more unstoppable this year than previously imagined. In the middle of a lengthy press tour, the Georgian rapper’s crammed, in-office concert is already being perceived as a future classic in the eyes of rap fans.
On his way to join NPR performance legends in Mac Miller, Anderson .Paak and others, JID wildly impressed with the live arrangements of a few TFS tracks: “Surround Sound,” “Kody Blu 31” and “Sistanem.” However, it wasn’t all about TFS, as JID flexed some older bangers at Tiny Desk — performing “Workin Out,” “Off Da Zoinkys” and “Never” off his previous LPs The Never Story and DiCaprio 2.
The Forever Story has proven to be JID’s magnum opus at this point in his career — striving for nothing less than perfection with his right hand man and executive producer Christo. In a recent interview with OGM, he pulled back the curtain on the process of working with JID on the record, and how the two were hyper-focused on making “a timeless piece of art, and that comes before any type of clout or recognition.”
It’s apparent that JID is having a moment only few artists experience in their careers — and he’s definitely making the most of it.
