The retail clothing brand and iconic Chicago rapper kicked off their 10-year partnership this week.
Hip-hop icon and business mogul Kanye West agreed to a deal in June 2020 with retail giant Gap — the store he worked for as a teenager — to create his first-ever Yeezy clothing line.
Almost immediately after Yeezy’s intial release, West — in his overexcited nature — began making headlines saying that he wanted to be “the Steve Jobs of Gap.”
Nearing closer to becoming Gap’s “Steve Jobs” each year, Kanye’s partnership with Adidas has shown his capability of installing a creative vision for fashion into a major company and achieving great success.
The Yeezy brand for Adidas has been increasing in value over the years large in part by its massive sneaker sales. In 2020, “Yeezys” sneakers reached $1.7 billion in annual revenue, as West solely marketed the business around his inaugural shoe design.
With West’s track record at Adidas, he’s now bringing his talents to Gap — as the opportunity for success is limitless in his creative role.
In July 2020, he posted a sneak peak video to Twitter of potential clothes for Yeezy Gap scattered across the floor with a model being fitted in them.
In similar fashion in August 2020, West hinted at a kids clothing line for Yeezy Gap, with his daughter North wearing a top with the word “Rookies” on it.
It appears that West has many plans under his belt for this partnership. However, with their first official release June 8, Gap and Kanye West only decided to put one item up for sale — a $200 blue puffer jacket.
West was seen wearing the jacket earlier this week with a head covering, similar to the head coverings he and collaborators have been wearing potentially alluding to new music.
To purchase the new jacket, Gap’s instagram page posted a link in their description that led to a waiting room for preorder, with shipments beginning in Fall 2021. The instagram page also only shows one post, which is of the jacket, and the profile picture is the new YZY logo for Gap.
Be on the lookout for more Yeezy Gap releases because it appears that Kanye West is just getting started.
