Music from the elusive rapper-singer Reggie is a rare treat for his devoted fans.
Since his COLORS appearance in May, Reggie’s captivating presence on the mic wowed listeners in just the first few seconds. With a refined poise and intrinsic knack for melodies, his latest single “Avalanche” features a crisp verse from St. Louis’ Swiss Army knife, Smino.
The duo goes back and forth with their signature melodic jazz-rap, spitting grateful lyrics about their undeniable success. Production from Groove, Teej and Asa Davis comes in the form of a funky beat, reminiscent of a classic OutKast joint.
“Avalanche” marks the fourth song from Reggie so far on DSPs, as its corresponding visuals depict beautiful shots of Smino and Reggie’s day-to-day, hanging out with friends and kicking it in the neighborhood.
His first single, “Southside Fade,” was met with exceedingly positive reception — also receiving a chopped and screwed remix soon after its release. Since then, singles in “I Don’t Wanna Feel No More” and “Ain’t Gon Stop Me” have garnered millions of plays leading up to his collaboration with Smino.
With an indefinable release schedule, it’s unclear how soon fans will receive a full-length project from Reggie. Until then, listeners should take the time to familiarize themselves with the undeniably talented Houston native.
