Gabe P and On the Radar teamed up with Chow Lee, Matthew Ali and Vontee the Singer to bring you the latest addition to the Sexy Drill Summer playlist.
As the tail end of summer approaches, the party doesn’t stop for the Slizzy crew. Last week, a quick visit to On the Radar for Matthew Ali and Vontee the Singer turned into a full blown recording session and video shoot when Chow Lee showed up. The result, “Sexy Besties:” the newest release from On the Radar Records and one of the most fun records out of NYC this summer.
In part thanks to the longtime and enthusiastic backing of Gabe P and On the Radar, what started as a fun-loving, female-friendly sound built around nostalgic R&B samples and the signature stylings of Cash Cobain has officially developed into a full blown NYC subgenre.
Two of the most promising new faces with some of the best new projects out of the Sexy Drill Universe are the melodically-inclined Vontee the Singer and artist-producer Matthew Ali (who notably co-produced LUCKI’s recent viral hit “2021 Vibes” with Cash). The pair are also working on an upcoming joint-album. And of course, Chow Lee is never far from the action on a run of his own with tracks like “no hesi!” and “CONFETTI!” with JELEEL and his recent project Hours After the Club.
Produced by Burcci, Camo and Dreamz, everything about “Sexy Besties” is a quintessential Sexy Drill record. Immediately catchy with its sing-along-able hook and bouncy club bassline, the three young artists play off each other’s infectious energy and sound like they’re having so much fun they’ll have you planning your next trip to LES (the Lower East Side for the non-New Yorkers). As usual, the track is full of clubbable quotables: from Slizzy refrains such as referring to Henny as “Jenni” to NY-insider lines like “Met her at SNS.” And from relatable bars like “Scantron just test me” to overly forward flirtations in “Let’s turn this groupchat into a threesome.”
Coinciding with On the Radar’s 5th Anniversary and released at midnight during Gabe’s birthday celebration, there’s no doubt “Sexy Besties” marks a moment in time for OTR, the Sexy Drill crew, and NYC as a whole. They even brought the club to OTR Headquarter’s for the forthcoming music video to memorialize the occasion.
The summer might be coming to a close soon, but Vontee and Matthew Ali are ready to keep the party going with their upcoming joint project set to drop next week on August 25th – set to release in true Slizzy fashion with a gyals-only party at where else other than SNS Bar in Manhattan.
No one seems to be having quite as much fun in 2023 as Chow, Vontee, Matthew Ali, and the rest of the Sexy Drill cast of characters. It will be fun to watch as the sound itself and each of its entertaining players continue to evolve throughout the year and beyond.
