Travis Scott to perform in London, resparks ‘UTOPIA’ release rumors

To the surprise of fans, Travis Scott is premiering new music across the pond in August — instantly reigniting excitement for UTOPIA’s presumed 2022 release.

Taking to Instagram on Monday (June 27) to announce his set at O2 Arena in London later this summer, the Astroworld rapper is still building back his image stemming from the tragedy at Astroworld Festival last year. However, Scott is steadily returning to form, hopping on “Hold That Heat” with Future and Southside as well as debuting a new track, “LOST FOREVER,” at the Billboard Music Awards in May.

Following his UTOPIA billboard stunt at Coachella in April, Scott’s London show is still just the start of his comeback tour. Slated to headline a handful of festivals in South America this Fall, it seems as though the Houston rapper’s highly-teased LP is right around the corner.

After sharing his two-pack “MAFIA / ESCAPE PLAN” ahead of Astroworld Festival last November, all signs pointed to UTOPIA’s release coinciding with his annual concert event. Yet, Scott’s legal troubles in the aftermath of Astroworld left him to delay the project altogether.

In October 2021, it was reported that UTOPIA was in the final stages of production with Mike Dean handling the finishing touches of the mix and master. Dean has worked on every Travis Scott album since 2015’s Rodeo — further alluding to how long Scott has sat on the record. Dean even divulged to OGM host Hakeem Rowe in our exclusive interview that Travis is “getting back to” the style of Owl Pharoh — his debut 2013 mixtape.

As La Flame slowly gets back in the saddle, his upcoming album is all about “proper lines of communication,” he said to CR Fashion in 2021. Scott also spoke on the album with WWD last June following the Dior-Cactus Jack Summer 2022 Men’s Show.

“I’m in this new album mode of like psychedelic rock. So even just like the field of cactuses and mushrooms, you might get tripped out.”
