Seven months removed releasing his self-titled album-of-the-year candidate, Vince Staples is back with more “Magic” in the air.
“Magic” is the lead single off his upcoming album Ramona Park Broke My Heart, which is slated for release in April. Releasing a commercial for his next project featuring “Magic,” Vince is rolling out RPBMH solely at his pace. Per a coinciding press release, Staples spoke on the meaning behind his next LP as well as the frame of mind he was in when he made it, saying it would be something “personal,” but “everyone” would be able to relate to it.
“It’s symbolic of home. And everyone has a home. Even though it’s very personal to me, everyone can relate to it. That’s why I thought it would work for this chapter.”
“[Vince Staples and RPBMH] were kind of created at the same time. I was in a similar state of mind. I’m still working through things and the questions that life poses. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one.”

As mentioned in the simplistic cover art, Staples continues to capitalize off the sound he perfected on his 2021 self-titled album Vince Staples. With a buzzing, warm bass line provided by Mustard, laid-back chimes looped on the beat and poised, focused flow, Vince stays in his bag on “Magic.”
I just wanna be successful
You won’t never ever see me with my head low
Prouder than my daddy and what happened in the ghetto
Handed me a thirty-eight and told me I was special, ayy
Feeling like I’m floating to the ceiling, is it magic?
Baby, tell me why you disappearin’, this is magic
“Magic” — Vince Staples
In his verses, Vince emphasizes his resilience and how magical of a run he has made to get to where he is now. With “Magic” serving as a reflective victory lap, everything that makes Staples’ sound appealing is present on the track.

Vince Staples to drop new song “Magic” on Valentine’s Day
All it took for Vince Staples to have a monumental run in 2021 was 22 minutes.
His brief, self-titled studio album last July was jam-packed full of reserved, yet groovy West Coast beats and Vince’s unmatched menacingly poised flow. The album, at least by our standards, was one of hip-hop’s marquee albums of 2021, and reminded fans why he is one of the best in the game when he drops.
Now, Vince feels fans are ready for another reminder. On Monday (Feb. 14), Staples will drop his brand new single “Magic,” as he released the song’s cover art on Feb. 9.

In a commercial released Sunday (Feb. 6) that promoted the new Beats By Dre Beats Fit Pro headphones, a 15-second snippet of the upcoming song “Magic” was revealed.

The advertisement depicts tennis phenom Naomi Osaka, girlfriend of the blossoming rapper Cordae, levitating on the tennis court while listening to “Magic,” which is produced by Mustard. Similar to many of the LA producer’s hits in his career, the “Magic” beat contains a strong amount of West Coast feel, perfectly catering to Vince’s musical direction.
Now days away from Vince Staples’ new era, it will be interesting to see which direction he takes his sound after a stellar showing last year.
