Ye discusses paparazzi, Coachella, “Larry Hoover” show, Kim K, more in Jason Lee interview

When Kanye West was rolling out his tenth studio album Donda last summer, he famously wore a mask over his head and did not say a word on social media or in public, letting the music do the talking for him.

Now, in the aftermath of his musical renaissance, Ye has gotten plenty off of his chest lately.

On Monday (Jan. 24), blogger and radio host Jason Lee of HOLLYWODD UNLOCKED released a 45-minute interview with Ye from last week (Jan. 13). The interview took place the morning after a viral night for West, as he was seen lounging with Madonna, erratic football star Antonio Brown, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, his girlfriend Julia Fox, TDE owner Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and more.

When speaking with Lee on that gathering, Ye hoped everyone could soak in the special moment saying, “We’re going to get to a place where we appreciate people while they’re here. That’s Madonna and Floyd Mayweather in the same room. These are legends. So when I saw that, I just told everybody, ‘Yo let’s go to the back and let’s shoot some pictures. Let’s capture these moments.’ These pictures are going to be iconic, and years from now we can go back and say we had this moment.”

Along with this, Kanye sounded off on many of the issues and headlines he’s been involved in lately. This included his altercation he had with one of his cousins, who had asked to speak to Kim K on his behalf, and paparazzi later that night that led to an assault charge.

He has held a particular gripe with the media recently, as they have been flipping the occurrences in his life into negative narratives, whether it be the aforementioned scuffle, or any ongoing issues he has had with his experience-wife Kim Kardashian. Kanye was displeased by the portrayal that he was being intrusive by buying a house next to Kim’s, even though it was ultimately so he could see his kids more.

His children seem to be the main motivation for him right now, as he emphasized several times in the interview that the media needs to stop “playing with him” about his kids. He explained that he was prevented from seeing them at Kim’s house once because her new boyfriend Pete Davidson was there.

While he did not reveal his personal feelings about Pete, he did voice anger about Kardashian kissing Davidson during her guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, especially because he went out of his way to protect her image by purchasing a tape of Kim that was going to leak and bring her negative publicity.

On a more positive note, however, Kanye did divulge that his upcoming April Coachella appearance will feature separate sets from him and his Sunday Service choir, who performed at Coachella in 2019.

This will be Ye’s first live performance since the “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert he played with Drake in December, which Jason Lee, similar to many other fans, referred to as a Verzuz battle. However, Kanye cleared the air by saying Drizzy was responsible for drafting up his set list for the show.

Throughout the rest of the interview, Kanye and Jason converse about a litany of topics regarding Ye’s current headspace. West discussed his new Donda Academy high school basketball team, his admiration for Cardi B and their upcoming collaboration, his love for Big Sean and John Legend, his appreciation for N.O.R.E. and Drink Champs for letting him speak his mind, his disdain for the Democratic Party and much more.
