YG on new album: ‘The music is just gonna be my truth, as far as my life right now.’

After being absent for most of 2021, YG is ready to shake up the world again.

The Compton native has always done exceptionally well at supplying the streets with new bangers just when it’s needed. However, aside from a collaboration tape with fellow California native Mozzy titled Kommunity Service, YG was pretty silent last year. Starting off 2022 on the right foot with the release of “Scared Money” featuring J. Cole and Moneybagg Yo, YG announced his new album Pray For Me will release later this year.

Going through the pandemic and not releasing much music, and suffering the loss of his close friend and 4 Hunnid affiliate Slim 400, YG seems to have done a lot of reflecting over the last year. Feeling better and more rejuvenated than ever, he is back on a promo run and ready to supply the world with more West Coast energy in real-life situations.

During his recent sitdown with Power 106‘s Letty Martinez, YG talks in detail about the title of his album, what it means for him going forward, and his overall evolution as an artist.

“It’s just the growth of me, my headspace, what I’m on in life. And I think the whole COVID pandemic shit, I hated it, but I also look at it as this shit kinda helped me get to where I’m at mentally. The music is just gonna be my truth, as far as my life right now.”

The evolution of YG has been amazing to see over the last five years. After signing a bad deal with Def Jam, YG now is at a point in his career where he owns his masters, and he is ready to continue his partnership with the label with a fresh mindset.

While there is no set release date for YG’s upcoming album, rest assured we will be seeing much more from the Compton rapper in the coming months and a confirmed tracklist and release date in the near future.
