Griselda and The Alchemist have one of those special producer-artist connections that are virtually unbreakable.
After teaming up with Boldy James on their second collab album, BO JACKSON, in August, Al is helping Conway The Machine get his debut studio album up and running.
Dropping its lead single “Piano Love” over the weekend (Oct. 8), Conway’s forthcoming album, God Don’t Make Mistakes, is set to be his third full-length release of the year. With previous 2021 records in La Maquina and If It Bleeds It Can Be Killed still in rotation, Conway has positioned himself for yet another stellar year off the back of big-time features with fellow Griselda labelmates.
Appearing on Westside Gunn’s album HWH8 and Benny The Butcher’s Pyrex Picasso, the Griselda trio have experienced a stratospheric ascension over the past two years. The Alchemist, on the other hand, is riding the wave of his intrinsic EP series This Thing Of Ours — colliding with Conway for a grimy, piano-sampled cut.
Alchemist packs in a plethora of sonic layers on “Piano Love,” featuring arpeggiated keys and lo-fi boom-bap percussion. Conway’s witty, brutally honest bars lift the track to greater heights, as the Buffalo native speaks on respect, his troubled past and the struggles he’s endured throughout his rise to fame.
N****s gettin’ smoked in broad day and it’s a shame
Don’t matter if you was in front of the precinct, you gettin’ stained
Ain’t no respect in my hood unless you put in some pain (Hah)
Keep sleepin’ on my city and thinkin’ this shit a game (Think this shit a game)
We don’t play fair, drive-bys right in front of the daycare (Ah)
We spray hairpin triggers, that FN on my waist here
