No artist has been more consistent than Dro Kenji over the past four years.
Dropping eight albums since his breakout debut mixtape, TEARS & PISTOLS, Kenji is in the midst of his ninth (yes, ninth) full-length effort since 2020. Sharing “HEARTLESS” earlier this year, the Internet Money artist dropped the album’s second lead single “EVIL TWIN” on Friday (Sept. 27) — and did not disappoint.
Known for swaying heartbreak anthems, “EVIL TWIN” shows the dark side to a toxic relationship. “You my evil twin, yeah / Can we f*ck again, yeah? / That shit like a drug to me, yeah, Percocets and Xans,” he croons over a mysterious, yet hard-hitting instrumental that embodies Kenji’s imminent era. WISH YOU WERE HERE seems to be a polar opposite of the dark cloud that’s looming over Dro’s next record, which is still unnamed.
Nevertheless, expect more “beautiful music” — and know that this is what makes Dro Kenji special. Within each track, he bares his soul willingly, unwavering of outside perception, and on “EVIL TWIN,” it’s another look into the depths of love-torn, addictive despair.
