Dro Kenji has an affinity for heartbreak, but on “HEARTLESS,” he seems to be the one breaking hearts.
Dropping his latest single on Friday (May 24), Kenji returns with a vengeance on his first official offering since “CALM” last December. Ahead of his ninth full-length project, which is due out later this year, “HEARTLESS” proves to be the lead effort off the Internet Money rapper’s next album.

Touting fleeting synths, grumbling 808s, meditative melodies and punchy kicks (produced by Rio Levya), “HEARTLESS” is one of Kenji’s most sonically complete hits to date. “Mr. Never Love A Ho Right, oh yeah / f**k good, send her bye-bye / Deep off in the darkness, I can’t save her, she so heartless,” he croons on the hook, lifting the weight off his shoulders by tearing off a classic Kenji performance a la Tears & Pistols. It feels nostalgic yet refreshing, as Kenji continues to embody the new age emo-rap lane alongside midwxst, DC The Don and others.
The MiraTouch rapper’s latest album, WISH YOU WERE HERE, was the latest project in a line of eight since 2021. Saying that consistency is key to keeping fans loyal, it’s more than just dropping tracks for the sake of it. Within each track, he bares his soul willingly, unwavering of outside perception. This is what makes Dro Kenji special — continuing to make “beautiful” music on his ascent to mainstream notoriety.
