There’s few new wave collaborations that light a “FIRE” like Midwxst and DC The Don.
The emotive track, that’s poised to land on the Indiana star’s forthcoming mixtape BACK IN ACTION 4.0, sees both Edgar and Donny bodying their R&B-pop bag. A collaboration tailor-made for the brooding voices of DC The Don and Midwxst, “FIRE” feels like the butterflies you get from falling for a summer fling. However, chaos ensues when Donny and Edgar’s paths meet — colliding with one another in a blustered car crash in the coinciding visual. Love hurts, after all.
“You know what they say, ‘Play with fire, you get burned’ / Come away with nothin’ from the lessons that I learn,” Midwxst croons on the opening lines, as Donny contemplates being scorned by the love he’s still addicted to. “Lead me to the fire, I’m a lover, not a fighter / Like girl, I’m so addicted, only you can get me higher,” he sings.
Sharing his debut album, E3, last September, the 21-year-old Midwxst — who’s been dubbed as “The Future of Music” by Rolling Stone — continues to make mainstream waves off the back of projects like BIA 3.0, better luck next time and marquee festival sets at Lollapalooza and more. DC The Don, on the other hand, is right up there with him, earning his first-ever festival slot at Rolling Loud Miami last July as he looks to follow-up his acclaimed album, FUNERAL, with his next LP, REBIRTH, later this year.
Amid the flames, Midwxst and Donny fan the “FIRE” of their hearts for a record that feels as timeless as it sounds.
