Ahead of the album’s release on Oct. 7, “PIRATE RADIO*” is a perfect teaser for how eclectic and forward-thinking his upcoming record is going to be. Mixing elements of hip-hop, R&B and even country in some aspects, Jean proves how talented and diverse he is across all genres.
As previously mentioned, “PIRATE RADIO*” is a cacophony of sounds that completely showcases the amount of raw talent Dawson possesses. Continuing a reoccurring theme of personal struggle that his other tracks play into, he resides in a much more grandiose setting this time around — utilizing a cinematic allure striving to lift himself up from “way down in the deep end.”
Overall, Jean’s triumphant vocals and contemplative track presence feed into an incredible display of range — intertwining all elements of the quality production behind him. Along with near-perfect violin riffs and hard-hitting drums, “PIRATE RADIO*” is a seamless blend of voice and sound.
“Push my head underwater
See how long it’ll hold
Way down in the deep end
Rinse the sins from my clothes
I like to think that I’m all in
I like to think that I’m there
I push my head underwater
Just to come up for air““PIRATE RADIO*” – Jean Dawson
Alongside his new track, the rising star also dropped off its coinciding music video, which touts striking visuals and cinematography that plays into Jean’s future “GOAT” status. Depicting a fever dream world in itself, the visual sees Jean mirror his own dualities as a man. Taking place on one block, the video features a variety of animals and people along with tattoos and lowriders.
Additionally, Jean’s LP will be accompanied by a North American tour, titled the “CHAOS NOW TOUR*” with Junior Varsity. The tour runs almost exactly one month, lasting from Oct. 16 until Nov. 17 and will feature locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and more.
Ahead of the “chaos” he’s bringing forth, spin Jean’s “PIRATE RADIO*” on repeat in the meantime.
