KayCyy drops surprise SoundCloud single ‘Light The Globe (Serena)’

Hours before his Friday set at Lollapalooza in Chicago (July 29), KayCyy gave fans little to “No Warning” about his latest single.

Reigniting the rollout for his long-awaited album Who Is KayCyy?, the Kenya-born, Minnesota-raised rapper has been striving to complete his debut “ALBM” much “SOONR” than you think. Following his electric 9-track teaser tape Get Used To It in June, KayCyy’s fresh-pressed SoundCloud cut seems to be another taste of his mythical debut — based on the watercolor artwork of the “LIGHT THE GLOBE (SERENA)” cover.

While similar to the original concept design of WIKC, the album may look a bit different once it’s finally released, revealed KayCyy via Twitter. His 3-track EP TW20 50 with Gaseffelstein initially “unlocked three tracks from the album,” he said, as his newest effort seemingly continues the strides KayCyy made with the French producer/DJ in March.

Nevertheless, “LIGHT THE GLOBE (SERENA)” sees the 2022 XXL Freshman float over ethereal yet hard-hitting production — much like “New Rules” and “Needed For Something” off GUTI. KayCyy has a way of making songs feel more cinematic on first spin, as the YZY Sound disciple glides over the track’s airy chimes and frozen bells that makes listeners ascend alongside him. “Light the globe, make the money go around / At night you can catch me with my dogs,” KayCyy spits with a laid-back tone — bringing the angelic energy needed for the track to shine at its brightest.

Taking on his first festival performances this year — coming off his inaugural Rolling Loud set last weekend and now Lollapalooza (July 29) — KayCyy looks to “light the globe” lighting up crowds for years to come.
