Mura Masa is a well-established electronic producer from Guernsey, an island part of the Channel Islands which is a British territory near France. Mura Masa has most notably worked with rappers like A$AP Rocky on “Love$ick” and Desiigner for “All Around The World” on his 2017 self-titled album.
Now, Mura Masa is working towards his upcoming album Soundtrack To A Death, Part 2, which is a sequel to his 2014 debut. As part of the project’s rollout, he dropped his new promotional single “bbycakes” on Feb. 22 with Lil Uzi Vert, PinkPantheress and Shygirl.
Mura Masa first previewed the song on Tiktok on Feb. 16, as it received over 175,000 likes and over 1 million views, prompting him to release it as soon as possible.
The particular collaboration between Uzi and British rising star PinkPantheress is what gave way to this reaction, as PinkPantheress is coming off of a stellar effort with her October 2021 to hell with it project.
On “bbycakes,” Shygirl’s “Babycakes, you just don’t know, know” sets an excellent tone for the cutesy, head-bopping hyper pop track. These renditions of the hook sandwich Uzi and PinkPantheress’ verses, where Uzi’s portion sees him at the end of the line with a woman he cares about, but cannot wait on forever. This verse contains the best exhibition of effort and creativity fans have seen from Lil Uzi in quite some time.

The second verse provided by PinkPantheress contains much more spite, as she divulges in her unfaithfulness to her significant other, who she isn’t afraid to lose at all.
