SZA, SAINt JHN team up: The two singers link up for second single on upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack.
SZA and SAINt JHN are a pair that hip-hop and R&B fans didn’t know they needed until they joined forces. SZA has been relatively quiet since the release of her 2017 magnum opus album, Ctrl. But, whenever she does drop any music, she is a show stopper.
In 2018, she was featured on “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar from Lamar’s Black Panther: The Album (Music from and Inspired By). “All The Stars” reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, achieved 2x RIAA Platinum status and was nominated for for Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards.
SZA wouldn’t release another song for two years, where she returned with single “Hit Different (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)” in September 2020. Next, she dropped “Good Days” in December, and then linked up Doja Cat to feature on her track “Kiss Me More.” All three of these tracks reached the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100.
As for SAINt JHN, he is fresh off dropping his second solo studio album While the World Was Burning in November — which included a stacked feature roster of Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, JID and others. His hit single “Roses” peaking at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and was a viral sound for months on Tik-Tok.
SAINt JHN’s strong vocals and unique charisma along with SZA’s sexy elegance came together on “Just For Me,” released June 11.
“Just For Me” will be included as the second single on the “Space Jam: A New Legacy” soundtrack. “We Win” by Lil Baby and Kirk Franklin was the first song released for the soundtrack, and the new film will be released July 16.
“Space Jam: A New Legacy” features Los Angeles Lakers basketball star LeBron James as the lead role for this much anticipated sequel to the original “Space Jam” movie with Michael Jordan from 1996.
On “Just For Me,” SAINt JHN opens the track with mellow vocals over instrumentation reminiscent of SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s “All The Stars.” SZA romantically comes in for the second verse after JHN’s “you’re just for me” hook, as the two meet back up to share the final bridge and hook at the end of the track.
With stars such as Lil Baby, SZA, and SAINt JHN already featured on the new soundtrack, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” may have more marquee artists to offer when the entire soundtrack drops on July 9. In the meantime, enjoy SAINt JHN and SZA’s newest single “Just For Me” below.
