Ty Fontaine’s “Thugger era” is sure to be one to remember.
Paying homage to the YSL hitmaker’s classic album Beautiful Thugger Girls, Young Thug’s impact seems to weigh heavy on the independent DC-based phenom. Fontaine has not only fed his fans in 2021 with his double album Ascension, he continues to set himself apart as a superstar in the making — dropping his lead single “Numb” off his upcoming project Beautiful Michi Girls.
“Numb” is not only a perfect introduction to a new free-flowing era for Fontaine, but showcases his bonafide hit-making ability once more. Drawling in with slurred verbiage on the track’s first few seconds, Fontaine finds his footing with a wavy hook that instantly catches the ear. Channeling his inner Thug, the new wave enigma utilizes his voice as the track’s focal point. Backed by its hazy, up-tempo trap production, “Numb” is a groovy switch-up for Ty, further displaying his unmatched charisma stemming from the lighter tones found on Virtual World 2.
Fontaine has enjoyed a stratospheric rise to the top of the underground. Much like his peers in SSGKobe, Dro Kenji and others, he exists in a soundscape that is slowly taking over hip-hop’s next generation — a constant blend of iridescent trap-infused production and entrancing sung-rapped melodies.
Taking to Twitter on Friday (Dec. 3), Michi divulged to his followers that he “wanted to cry” listening to Beautiful Michi Girls on a recent flight from Salt Lake City, Utah — giving some insight into what fans can expect from the new wave enigma.

Amid his new effort, Fontaine is still riding the success of his 2021 projects in Ascension and Virtual World 2. Recruiting some of the new wave’s best and brightest in Trippie Redd, Summrs, Pasto Flocco, Lil Tecca, Cochise, Yung Fazo and Joony, V2 has ultimately positioned Fontaine at the center of hip-hop’s core up-and-coming acts. With 12 added tracks, Fontaine continues to assert his place as one the underground’s leading voices, tapping into his superstar potential once more.
With Fontaine gunning for a fourth quarter walk-off — and if Beautiful Michi Girls is as comparatively impactful as Thug’s 2017 masterpiece — the DC native looks to bleed his 2021 success straight into the new year.
Simply put, expect Ty Fontaine to impress on BMG.
