Fontaine, Ox and KA$HDAMI glide over “Pick A Strain’s” vibey plugg production, as KA$H leads the way with a menacing, braggadocious verse. Ox and Fontaine follow through with melodic vocal fillers and hard bars, bringing the two-minute track to a peak before KA$H hops back in for his final hook.
Fontaine is fresh off his latest album Ascension — his first project after leaving Internet Money this past year. Ascension is a glimpse into Fontaine’s ever-changing world, reaching new heights as an artist as each track progresses. The album not only proves Ty’s ability to create infectious hooks and curate high-energy production, but also showcases his knack for using his voice as a force of versatility.
While Fontaine is the most seasoned of the three, both KA$HDAMI and Matt Ox are only 16-years-old — with Ox already having over four years of experience in the game. Earning a guest spot on the late XXXTENTACION’s “$$$,” Ox released his debut album OX in 2018 — featuring Chief Keef, KEY! and Valee — but has yet to officially release another solo project since. However, Ox has been included on multiple singles this year in “Chess,” “Choppa,” “PAUSE” and his most recent “In The Mix.”
KA$HSAMI, on the other hand, is continuing his already strong 2021 with “Pick A Strain.” On his latest album, Epiphany, KA$H’s dark, melodic mix of hard-flowing punchline bars and captivating vocal performances seamlessly slide over the album’s somber yet punchy plugg production — drawing inspiration from the original era of SoundCloud Rap. It’s a testimony to his star potential, continuing Epiphany’s energy and sound on “Pick A Strain.”
