24kGoldn, Bandmanrill connect for new single ‘Checkers’

All year long, 24kGoldn has been building towards the release of his reported upcoming full-length project Growing Pains. His three singles from 2022 that include his February Internet Money collab “Options,” his March Travis Barker joint track “In My Head” and the September bop “Mistakes” have all been part of a steady, yet thrilling rollout for the 22-year-old.

Now, just as the end of 2022 nears, Goldn has seemed to found the perfect match for his latest upbeat offering. On Dec. 16, he released his fourth single of the year titled “Checkers,” which includes a feature from popping New Jersey native Bandmanrill.

Mixing his distinct melodic crooning with Bandmanrill’s surging Jersey club sound proves to be a worthwhile endeavor. Containing a string loop from the famed Einer Bankz, along with vibrant claps and bed-squeaking sound effects, “Checkers” sees both vocalists not seeing eye to eye with the people in their life.

Filling the gaps between his “You playin’ checkers and I’m playin’ chess, baby, we are not one and the same” hook with angsty verses directed at his ex, Goldn sets the stage for Bandmanrill to turn the trust issues all the way up.

Correctly proclaiming that he and Goldn are “in this bitch spittin’,” the Newark native drops fiery, fast-paced bars about his elevated status in his neighborhood and staying true to himself through adversity.

In that storm, it get real, I kept my hoodie on, stood tall in the rain, oh
You ain’t my homie, no, I’m not tryna kick it
Bitch, I’m the one in my hood, I’m the ticket (Yeah, yeah)
I signed a deal, this shit hit like a picket
I’m tryna f**k, I want Jada, no Pinkett, on bro

It is currently unclear when 24kGoldn will decide to officially roll out and drop his impending project. But, if songs like “Checkers” and the rest of his 2022 songs are any indictor of the content on the LP, just know that the pop-rap community will be in good hands.
