‘ANYCIA’ is ATL’s newest it girl

Ever since catching fire with her viral “So What” snippet back in February, Anycia is looking and sounding like ATL’s newest it girl.

The perfect picture of nonchalance, Anycia’s irreverent bars and wholly unbothered demeanor are exactly what 2023 ordered. Equally pretty as she is gangster, her understated swag and uniquely low register vocal are as striking as her looks – resonating with girls and guys alike to make notable early fans out of (Drake’s executive producer) Kevin Durant, Summer Walker, Waka Flocka and Zack Fox and tap in with important producers like Popstar Benny, 1st Class, MVW and Bakkwoodz. And just this week, her twin Veeze (frequently referring to her as “the female version of me”) announced she would be joining his upcoming national Ganger tour.

To celebrate the news and follow her first official release “BRB,” this week Big Nene formally introduced herself with her latest self-titled single, “ANYCIA.”

With “ANYCIA,” ATL’s newest rising star lets us know “who she is, where she be, and what typea time she be on.” The perfect combination of Sexyy Red, Ice Spice and Veeze, Anycia’s aloof demeanor and matter-of-fact delivery are counterintuitively magnetic – and likely play a big role in why people think she is mean… when in fact she is just speaking her mind.

Much like her infamous “we made a baby, I sent it to heaven” line, everything about Nene feels refreshingly real, raw and grounded in reality. On her new single, she continues to lead with authenticity with self-aware bars like “I was bad as f*ck in school ain’t even get to finish” and “I done been so broke before then I got on my grind” – describing relatable struggles in down-to-earth ways that feel much more hood girl-next-door than WWE superstar.

And for the Rari Digital-directed music video, she’s looking like a freshly minted rap star as she shows off her brand new chain and fresh face tat on a rooftop high above NYC.

In a music landscape that is starving for authentic nonchalance and new female artists who appeal equally to the underground, the streets and the girlies: Anycia checks all the boxes. After bubbling online throughout the year as one of the underground’s most promising new faces, Big Nene appears ready for the big time.
