While the artist formerly known as Kanye West has already showed his impeccable skills behind the boards on Pusha T masterful It’s Almost Dry, he saved his best for former G.O.O.D. Music member Consequence.
Dropping his highly-anticipated single “Blood Stain” on June 10, the bombastic Ye-produced track sees Consequence bleed irreverent bars in every corner of the high-powered cut.
Before its release, Consequence teased that the production on the track would be an easy contender for “beat of the year.” That bold claim now has some proper legs to it after hearing the finished product, as Ye’s production features some of his signature soulful sample flips and creative chops.
A currently unknown women sings “from the blood stain” repeatedly throughout Cons’ verses as he recalls coming up from the bottom and rising up to the ranks he is now. “You a superstar in the hood” he repeats on the hook, creating a mantra that his younger self surely followed. The driving energy behind the production pairs with Consequence’s hunger on the mic, making for an addictive listen and one that will motivate anyone to keep pushing forward.
This new song comes just after Consequence decided to patch things up and end his side of the beef with Drake. He shared a Twitter DM between himself and longtime OVO producer Noah “40” Shebib, signaling an end to any bad blood between the two. The text also revealed the desire for each artist to eventually link up in the future.
Consequence’s relationship with Ye goes back to the beginning. The pair can be found on Ye’s classic “Spaceship” off his 2004 debut The College Dropout and later on his 2005 record “Gone” from Late Registration. Before “Blood Stain” Consequence reunited with Ye just last year on the Grammy award-winning song “Hurricane,” where the former is credited as a writer. This latest collaboration only shows that their bond is timeless and continues to result in exceptional hit records.
With this latest single, Consequence is gearing up for the release of his latest album Nice Doing Business With You. Although there is still no release date for the upcoming project, “Blood Stain” shows a promising sign for the veteran rapper. With plenty left to say — and with production from Ye behind him — Consequence is ready to face whatever battles lie ahead, streaking towards another stellar showcase on his next LP.
