Detroit’s Babyface Ray taps fellow hometown favorite Veeze for ‘Spending Spree’

Detroit’s Babyface Ray celebrates his ongoing win streak with a new visual featuring fellow Motor City fan-favorite, Veeze. “Spending Spree” is one of several standouts off the new deluxe version of Ray’s hugely successful debut album FACE initially released in January.

Several of Face’s most memorable songs over the last few years have come with a feature from Veeze, including “Gallery Dept, “Hall of Fame” and “Meg Thee Stallion.” Their counterintuitive, matter-of-fact flows have always stood out against the decidedly aggressive regional sound, and their cool confidence is on full display during another red-hot collab.

Despite the dynamic duo’s distinctly understated delivery, “Spending Spree” is one of the more upbeat of the eight additional songs added to the deluxe. They somehow find a lane for their perfectly offbeat flows over the chaotic production (prod by Krazymob, Hendrix Smoke, B March, DY) as they weave intricate, surprisingly thoughtful bars about all the ways they’ve spent the average person’s life savings in one sitting.

The super crisp music video (by Lestyn Park & Logan Richardson) is littered with some incredibly well-executed edits & VFX and shows the pair of hometown heroes in a very Detroit-looking setting – in front of a candy-painted oldsmobile and surrounded by exclusive streetwear, exotic pop and security cameras.

As one of Babyface Ray’s closest collaborators, fans were happy to see Veeze on the Deluxe after missing him on the initial release – which first dropped in January before peaking at #31 on the Billboard 200. Since then, Face has appeared on “NO SECURITY” off Future’s No.1 album, tapped in with the underground on “Deuce & Fanta” with Warhol.ss. and embarked on the hugely successful national Sincerely Face Tour featuring some of Detroit’s most promising rising stars in Baby Money, GT, Los and Natty.

Just this week, not one but three tracks from the album were added to Jay-Z’s Memorial Day Playlist: “Family > Money,” A1 Since Day 1” and “6 Mile Show” with Icewear Vezzo. It’s safe to say that Babyface Ray is on a winning streak, and at this point has probably earned himself a spending spree.
