Doja Cat drops second single ‘Need To Know’ ahead of new album ‘PLANET HER’

Emerging singer/rapper returns with new track coupled with her album announcement.

Doja Cat has seemingly become a chart magnet over the past year.

Her run started with the lead single “Juicy (feat. Tyga),” which peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, for her 2019 album Hot Pink. The album also included the chart-topping hit “Say So,” her first and only No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Since then, Doja Cat has spent time between albums collaborating with some of the hottest female artists in the industry. First, she had Nicki Minaj hop on the “Say So” remix to bolster its popularity. Then, the City Girls and Latto jumped on Chloe x Halle‘s “Do It (Remix).”

In January, Doja Cat was featured on Saweetie‘s “Best Friend,” as the duo traded verses back-and-forth creating a universal “bestie anthem.”

To kick off her album rollout, Doja Cat enlisted one of R&B’s biggest names for the first single. “Kiss Me More (feat. SZA)” released in April, putting the world on notice for Doja’s newest era. The infectious pop banger saw Doja Cat sing a multi-faceted, sexy hook and transition into a slick-tongued, arousing rap verse, only to have SZA waiting on the back end of the track to deliver with an uptempo, charming verse of her own. “Kiss Me More” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early May and currently sits at No. 7.

“Need To Know,” Doja Cat’s next single was announced on June 8 on Twitter, where she would say later that day that the song was just to hold fans over until her next big release.

However, “Need To Know” is still included in the tracklist for Doja Cat’s third studio album PLANET HER, set to drop on June 25. Features for the album include hip-hop forces Young Thug and JID, along with pop dynamos Ariana Grande and The Weeknd.

“Need To Know” exemplifies what has always made Doja Cat special. Her unique ability to exquisitely sing her hooks and impressively rap her verses is what sets her apart. On the song her mesmerizing “Yeah-yeah, oh-woah-woah / Baby, I need to know,” hook is followed by her charismatic, sexually charged verse with bars like:

Sorry if I gave a random erection

Prolly thinkin’ I’m a telekinetic

Oh, wait, you a fan of the magic?

Poof, pussy like an Alakazam

“Need To Know” — Doja Cat

Although Doja Cat said this song was not the one to look out for, it still is another step in the right direction for the flourishing young star. She cannot seem to miss at the moment, and quality songs like “Need To Know” and “Kiss Me More” have her off to a great start for her newest project.
