Drake, Brent Faiyaz drop new collaboration ‘Wasting Time’

R&B phenom to link with Toronto superstar for fresh single.

Brent Faiyaz released his 27-minute project F**k the World last February, as this was just another step in solidifying the blossoming R&B singer as one of the genre’s best. Since then, Faiyaz has released three prominent singles that have boosted his name over the past year.

“Dead Man Walking,” released in September, became viral on TikTok with its mysterious opening lyric “drop the roof and let the smoke clear.”

Next, Brent Faiyaz linked up with DJ Dahi and Tyler, The Creator in January for hit single “Gravity,” which peaked at No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track placed Faiyaz’s strengths on full display, perfectly complemented by Tyler’s grimy, low-pitched verse on the backend.

In March, he dropped another single “Show U Off.”

Now, him and the Certified Lover Boy look to set the charts ablaze with their fresh collaborative single “Wasting Time.”

Drake has been very generous with features in 2021, potentially hoping to quell any overwhelming desires from fans for the new album. He hopped on MigosCulture III for the song “Having Our Way,” Young Thug and Young Stoner Life‘s compilation album Slime Language 2 for the song “Solid” and Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green” with Lil Wayne.

Drizzy is familiar with collaborating and spotlighting artists to boost their careers — most recently with Lil Durk in 2020 for “Laugh Now Cry Later.” Drizzy’s had a part in many artists’ first “hit” in the past like BlocBoy JB, ILOVEMAKONNEN and even Lil Baby before his rise to fame.

Now, Brent Faiyaz will be on the receiving end of the assist from Drake, over production from The Neptunes. The song was announced this morning, and shows cartoon figures of Faiyaz and Drake on the covert art, in similar fashion to the illustration of The Neptunes’ lead man Pharrell Williams‘ 2006 album In My Mind.
