FKA Twigs connects with The Weeknd on ‘Tears in the Club’

When FKA Twigs confirmed a stellar collaboration with Grammy award-winning artist The Weeknd earlier this week, there were certainly tears of joy in the club upon its release.

Hitting streaming platforms Dec. 17, “Tears In The Club” sees Twigs and Abel feeding off the track’s relatively depressive undertones, as both stars sing of heartbreak over a gloomy and 808-heavy instrumental. In the accompanying visual, fans discover dramatic scenes of Twigs laying quietly in the rain, on an operating bed and dancing on a pole in what appears to be a tank of some sort — while The Weeknd sits and observes with tears rolling down his face. Similarly, “Tears In The Club” displays an overall dark yet artistic tone with the visual’s flashing lights curating an ominous energy over the course of the record.

“Tears In The Club” follows Twigs’ most recent cut “Measure of a Man,” which is a part of the movie soundtrack to “The King’s Man.” Initially taking to TikTok to post a snippet of the track, she captioned the then-unreleased cut “pre-game” with the hashtag “#tearsintheclub,” as she peacefully applied lipstick to herself. While the TikTok snippet didn’t contain The Weeknd’s verse, fans were able to do some digging and found a longer version beforehand.

Although Twigs has been fairly quiet recently — putting out two tracks in 2021 and has yet to share a full-length project since her 2019 album MAGDALENE — she announced a new mixtape set to release on Jan. 14, 2022. However, she has not yet released the title of the upcoming project.
