Guwop taps frequent collaborator Pooh Shiesty for second single on upcoming album ‘Ice Daddy.’
Gucci Mane helped introduce the world to Pooh Shiesty in early July 2020 on his album Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer. The project was a compilation featuring all the artists under Mane’s label 1017 records.
Over the years, 1017 Records hosted a number of hip-hop icons on their roster including Chief Keef, Young Thug and Waka Flocka Flame. Now, it’s time for their big name Pooh Shiesty to step into the spotlight.
Since having numerous features and verses on Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer, Shiesty has done exactly that. He spent the back half of 2020 and the early months of 2021 dropping singles for his upcoming debut album, Shiesty Season, which dropped in February. Songs like “Tweksum” released in September, and TikTok viral “Back in Blood” featuring Lil Durk helped propel Pooh Shiesty into the mainstream as quickly as any up-and-coming rapper could hope.
Recently, Shiesty found himself in a legal battle that may halt his momentum and prevent him from releasing work in the future. His bond was revoked this morning, June 10, for his two pending gun violence cases in Miami.
Shiesty and Gucci Mane teamed back up for new single “Like 34 & 8,” released June 9, for Mane’s new album Ice Daddy coming June 18.
The four-minute track essentially cuts right down the middle, with the first half dedicated to Gucci Mane’s verse, and back half for Pooh Shiesty’s. With no hook and extensive verses, the duo reaches deep into their bag for bars to ride the Mike WiLL Made-It instrumental.
Each of the two throws in a lyric referencing Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant’s dynamic duo in comparison to themselves, as well as both delivering captivating verses overall.
Shiesty, that’s my Kobe Bryant, ain’t no way I’m tradin’ the man (Shiesty)
Don’t try me or my goons be at your house like they the cable man (Wow)
