Dreamville shares massive ‘CREED III’ soundtrack

Dreamville brought its trademark sound to cinema, as J Cole and company executive produced the soundtrack to the highly-anticipated CREED III film.

Following its lead track “Ma Boy” with JID and Lute (Feb. 3), the rest of the record dropped alongside the movie’s release on Friday (March 3). Cole finds his way for a verse on “Adonis Interlude” along with his fiery, bar-heavy performance with j-hope on his new single “on the street.”

“Ma Boy” was JID’s first effort since sharing his AOTY-contending LP The Forever Story in October, which sees he and Lute’s labelmate chemistry shine bright. JID also contributes to the jam-packed “In The Room” with Tierra Whack and BJ The Chicago Kid. Dreamville regulars in Bas, Ari Lennox, Earthgang, MEREBA, Cozz, WESTSIDE BOOGIE and others blend with a few TDE prodigies in SiR, REASON as well as Big Sean, EST Gee, Morray, Kehlani and so much more.

“Ma Boy” is a gym-clad banger perfect for a sparring session, as both Dreamville emcees glide over the simplistic yet bouncy production. “I was at the BP with Ma Boy / Ma Boy,” JID spits on the hook, as airy vocal-esque keys create a cinematic space for Lute to jump in for his verse. They previously connected on popular ROTDIII tracks in “Down Bad” and “Costa Rica.”

The last we heard from Dreamville was when the collective dropped its DJ Drama-captained Gangsta Grillz mixtape, D-DAY. Cole — who surprisingly hopped on producer Bvtman’s “procrastination” last month — has been quietly prepping the follow-up to The Off-season since its release in 2021.

After a short stint playing for the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadien Elite Basketball League, the North Carolina legend turned his focus back to music, most recently producing Cordae and Anderson’s .Paak’s groovy collab “Two Tens.” He recently announced a star-studded lineup for his annual Dreamville Fest, in which he and longtime friend Drake are set to share the stage as Sunday’s co-headliners.

CREED III follows its two other installments starring Michael B. Jordan, who plays the role of Apollo Creed’s son Adonis — the prolific championship boxer and opponent of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) in the famed Rocky franchise.

While CREED III looks to crush box offices in its opening weekend, the soundtrack is a bombastic first round for Dreamville’s bout on the big screen.
