Worlds collide on new Khi Infinite, Reggie Becton collab ‘Pineapple Rum’

In the year that has passed since Virginia native Khi Infinite dropped his debut LP Take What You Need last October, the young artist has kept himself busy behind the scenes preparing new music for old and new fans alike.

His last release, the downtempo and genre-blending pop anthem “Keep Your Head Up” – helped solidify him as a powerful force in the world of burgeoning musical acts — but those initiated to his signature sound know that when Khi speaks, you listen. Joined by Reggie Becton, last week Khi Infinite returned with his newest banger “Pineapple Rum” — a futuristic alt-R&B cut perfect for closing out the year while topping off your cuffing season playlist.

Unlike Khi Infinite, “Pineapple Rum” is far from Reggie Becton’s first release this year. In the past month alone, the DMV native has dropped collaborations with both Jordan Hawkins and Sara Kawai – the latter being an acoustic version of his Nana-assisted single “Call”. Synthesizing a modern pop style with a soulful and nostalgic take on R&B, Reggie Becton’s complex musical register makes him and Khi Infinite perfect collaborators, as “Pineapple Rum” pushes R&B’s sound forward just as much as it reveres those who came before it.

Over gentle guitar melodies and mechanical trap percussion, “Pineapple Rum” sees Khi and Reggie trading verses about romantic tension, nostalgia, and everything in between. Between the duo’s dulcet vocals and their palpable knack for clever songwriting, “Pineapple Rum” is easily one of the strongest releases from either artist this year. With plans for more music in 2023 likely underway, there has never been a better time to be a fan of Khi Infinite and Reggie Becton.

With many of modern music’s titans already disappearing for the holidays, “Pineapple Rum” is yet another powerful reminder that the culture is always being supported by rising artists hungry to make a name for themselves. If this is your first exposure to Khi Infinite or Reggie Becton, feel free to take a deep dive over the holidays so that you can claim your “early fan” badge before it’s too late.
