Meek Mill comes with attitude on ‘War Stories’ freestyle

Philly rapper continues his 2021 freestyle run.

Meek Mill has been on quite a tear recently, letting his tongue run wild on recent freestyles. On Saturday (August 7), he released his third freestyle track of the year on YouTube, “War Stories.” Meek spits bars full of anecdotes about his turbulent life over visuals of riding ATVs in his hometown, studio sessions with notable rappers like Bobby Shmurda and Future and eating a fancy supper.

The two prior freestyles he’s dropped in 2021, “Lemon Pepper” from April over Drake‘s instrumental for “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with Rick Ross and “Flamerz Flow,” both see Meek Mill at his most potent and comfortable, aggressively attacking beats while speaking from the heart.

This third showing is no different. Over G Herbo‘s “In A Minute” instrumental, Meek goes on several different tangents about dealing with betrayals from his homies and the frequency of death in his community. The video shows a great contrast of the highs and lows in life, as he is seen gleefully at a bodega with Lil Uzi Vert, while rapping about gunfire and warlike situations in his neighborhood.

It ain’t no church in the ghetto, tryna dance with the devil

Uzi on me, nigga, I do the shuffle

Heard they lurkin’ at my main bitch crib, it’s to a whole ‘nother level

They want my soul, they better hope I don’t catch ’em

“War Stories” — Meek Mill

While Meek Mill has been killing freestyles lately, it remains to be seen when any new official music is dropping. In late June he announced that his upcoming album is 97% completed, but there is still no release date, cover art or tracklist.
