Not many producers could put together a guest list that is as enigmatic as Mr. Green’s.
While his last collaborative project was in 2018 with Griselda’s own Westside Gunn on FLYGOD is Good… All the Time, Green looks to take things a step further — enlisting some of hip-hop’s premier lyricists for his impending full-length release.
Recent releases from him have seen appearances from the upper echelon of rap. “Hall of Flying Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles” features not only a comically long track title but also Lil Wayne himself. Boom-bap drums laced with a catchy piano melody give Wayne the space to spit his manic flows and signature punchlines.
Prior songs off the album include “Supreme Ninja Training Montage” featuring the late DMX and “Golden Ninja Empire (Yayo Ninjas)” with Rick Ross. There is also a sequel to last year’s “Gucci Ninja Assassins” with Gucci Mane, “Gucci Ninja Assassins 2: In the Metal Garden of Fire”.
Since his appearance on the scene in the mid 2000s, Mr. Green has taken his unique style and applied it widely to true hip-hop artisans — and the results have been cinematic. His album is sure to present some surprises in the near future, as Mr. Green looks to keep his ‘green’ coming.
